Melodic House Course [TUTORIAL]

Melodic House Course [TUTORIAL]

In this course we are going to learn how to make a Melodic House track. Many artists have utilized this style in the past including Cheat Codes, Lost Kings, Big Z and even The Chainsmokers. This light and fun vibe is the perfect genre for Summer songs that are best to listen to in the car, on the beach, or by the pool. In this course we start with some chords and a meloody, assign some summer sounding sounds to them, and then turn them into a complete song. We go over every detail to make sure you understand exactly the types of sounds and techniques producers like to use in this genre.

Video 1 – Writing Chords, Melody, Bassline

In the first video we go over the elements of a typical Melodic House song, and we write some chords and a melody in that style. We talk about the types of melodies used in this genre. We use a Kontakt piano to get our basic idea down before we go on to assign sounds to each melodic element.

Video 2 – Picking Sounds

In this part we go over what sounds we picked for each musical element, we use Serum and iZotope Vocalsynth for this part. We go over how to layer our chords using 4 different synth layers which will create a thick and cohesive sound that will be the basis of our drop. We also go over what kind of base sounds to use to get that fat low end for our track.

Video 3 – Making The Drop

The third part has us filling out a drop using the sounds we picked in the prior part. We will use this drop as the start for our final product. We talk about what kind of drum one shots and loops producers in this genre use to fill out the frequency and stereo spectrum. We also go over some tips and tricks for filling up the frequency spectrum using ambient background elements tucked in the back of our mix.

Video 4 – Arrangement

We arrange all our pieces into a complete idea, and we go over what mindset to have while turning a drop into a full track. We talk about the arrangements used by producers in this genre as well as how to not do “too much” when making our verse section. The end goal is to build up nicely into our drop which we started in the previous part, while still keeping the listeners attention during the intro/verse/and build sections.
